Gafa
Built in the context of an Aotearoa setting and grounded in a Sāmoan lens, Sāʻiliga is an agency that aims to create resources for social and community practitioners. At its core, we want to offer space for authentic growth, community care, and the radical development of social practice. Our work prioritises indigenous wisdom, solidarity, nuance, and critical reflection and introspection.
In 2017, the early seeds of Sāʻiliga grew out of need for more professional supervisors with diverse experiences. At the time, Jono was taking on individual and group supervision clients from community organisations, mainly in Tāmaki Makaurau. In time, they recieved opportunities and invitations to run workshops and lectures on a variety of practice questions. Additionally, they were invited to support research and organisational development. These experience formed the basis for the offerings of Sāʻiliga.
In 2025, after 8 years of observing and listening to the needs of practitioners and gaps in practice provisions, Jono decided to form Sāʻiliga as an agency to support and grow offerings to social and community practitioners.
Like any good gafa, it is a living organism. If you would like to contribute to the work, reach out to us and weave your whakapapa with our gafa.
